VIRTUS for Volunteers

Who is a "volunteer?"


VOLUNTEERS - any adult who spends time with our students is required to complete yearly training and verification. This includes coaches, field trip chaperones, guest readers, volunteers, room parents, and any other activity volunteers.


The Archdiocese of Chicago mandates these compliance requirements.

"How Do I Get Started?"

  • New to MHR/VIRTUS

    CREATE ACCOUNT - Register for an account at www.virtusonline.org. Select Chicago, IL (Archdiocese) from the list and Most Holy Redeemer  SCHOOL as your primary location. Choose online training, and the system will automatically assign it to your account during pre-registration.

     

    TRAINING VIDEO - You will be assigned the “Protecting God’s Children” Training Video.Protecting God's Children for Adults is a training conducted by certified facilitators to prevent child sexual abuse. The training educates participants on the signs of child sexual abuse, the methods and means by which offenders commit abuse, and how to prevent it. 

     

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS - Once completed, additional training requirements will be assigned to your account and can be found in the “required documents” tab.


    CBC - Criminal Background Check, answer the questions and click to submit at the end to initiate this process. It usually takes 48 hours to clear and will automatically update in Virtus.


    ASB - Archdiocese Standards of Behavior. After reading the document, sign your name and click submit. Once completed, this will automatically update in Virtus.

  • Renewals/Yearly Update

    Volunteers are required to complete compliance items every year. Each volunteer has different due dates depending on when you set up your initial account.  For some, these items expire mid-year.


     Please log into the Virtus account periodically throughout the year (or every time you register to volunteer) so you can quickly check your status and complete the required steps:


    • CANTS - complete two annual forms  CANTS(22) and CANTS(689). Please print the forms, sign with pen, and return to Main Office. Please note that the PDF forms may not be signed electronically or via DocuSign; they must be signed in ink. 
    • BACKGROUND CHECK - An annual criminal background check is required. 
    • TRAINING MODULES - Virtus periodically assigns online training modules to watch and complete.

  • Inactive Account

    If you previously completed training in the past but have not been active in the past year, your account has likely moved to inactive status. Please notify Mrs. Margaret Schultz at 708-422-8280 or at mschultz@mhrschool.com in the Main Office to be reinstated. Follow-up training and forms will be required upon re-activation.
