Dear Parishioners,
Planning for our 46th annual Parish Carnival, scheduled for June 15-18, has been going on for months. We were looking forward to another enjoyable and successful event.
Over recent weeks though, incidents such as those taking place last month in downtown Chicago and Lombard, and last weekend in Tinley Park, raised many concerns from our parishioners about safety at the MHR Carnival.
After hearing from parishioners and consulting with the Evergreen Park Police Department, the Carnival Committee met. In the interest of safety, the difficult decision has been made to cancel the Carnival this year.
The Carnival does have a long-standing tradition and is our biggest fundraising event, so the decision was not an easy one. In the end though, concerns about safety won out.
We do not want the summer to go by without any kind of parish event. We are looking into an alternative to the Carnival. Details about that event will be forthcoming as soon as plans are formalized.
