Welcome to the start of the 2024-2025 school year! As you all know, MHR is a special place. We have amazing teachers and staff, enthusiastic students, and supportive parents. I am especially excited to welcome everyone back this year for the school’s 82nd year! Each year is special, but I know this year will be remarkable. We hope you enjoyed your summer break and are excited about all the new opportunities the school year will bring.
Please continue to prayer for MHR sixth-grader – Patrick Juarez. Patrick began chemo this past week, his first of 43 rounds. We thank our community for the outpouring of support, particularly the many students who, through various lemonade stands this week, raised over $3,000!

August 20 – Raider Ready
We are so happy with the response and registration for our Raider Ready PK program next week. Sign-up is still open; however, this is not mandatory and incurs no cost. School Start Time, Arrival, and Dismissal – SAME PROCEDURES AS LAST YEAR
Despite speculation, our school day remains the same as last year. We will continue soft entry arrival procedures put in place last year. Students may begin to enter the school building each day between 7:50 am and 8:10 am through the following doors:
Pre-K through 3rd-Grade Students
-
Please enter the building through the north parking lot entrance, aka the “Porch” doors.
4th Grade Students
-
Please enter through the glass doors on the west side of the school building across from the Church.
5th through 8th-Grade students
-
Please enter through our 96th entrance just off Briody Hall.
Students should not arrive at school and wait outside the building unsupervised before 7:50 am. Doing so is a safety risk. If a student arrives before 7:50 am, he or she will be placed in extended daycare with families charged the appropriate rate.
The school day will begin with prayer and announcements at 8:10 am. Students arriving after the 8:10 am bell will be marked late.
Warm Weather Dress Code
K—8 students will begin the school year in our warm-weather dress code. While our warm-weather dress code is outlined in our Family Handbook, in short, it is our PE uniform: red MHR shorts and a grey MHR tee. Typically, our warm-weather dress code concludes at the end of September. That said, I will inform families of the exact date in my weekly Thursday communication.

MHR Volunteer Commitment 2024
As August nears, the MHR School Advisory Board (SAB), in collaboration with school leadership and student-focused MHR organizations, welcome you to sign up for the School Volunteer Commitment! This new initiative will help our school community connect, bring fresh energy to our efforts and continue to thrive together throughout the school year.
As a reminder, following are details about the volunteer commitment:
-
What It Is: Every family with one or more full-time students enrolled in PK4- 8th grade must volunteer for at least one (1) school related activity per school year. Those who opt out of the commitment will incur a $500 fee via their FACTS account (tuition).
-
Where Your Time & Talents Can Help: Qualifying school organizations that need volunteer support include School Operations, SAB, Athletic Association, Parent’s Club & MHR Foundation. These opportunities vary in scale and time needed.
-
NOT Included: Church Operations, Women’s Guild, Men’s Club & Parish Council as well as sport-specific volunteer requirements, such as concessions, do not qualify. Families with part-time preschool students only are exempt but welcome to participate!
-
-
How It Works: Applicable volunteer opportunities are outlined in the attached and are available for sign up via SignUp Genius on a first come, first serve basis starting today. When the event is complete, organization leadership verifies your volunteer participation with the SAB. If you do not sign up, fail to complete or opt out of the commitment altogether, your family will incur the $500 fee.
-
Important Note: The Archdiocese requires Virtus training for volunteers who work with children directly. This is a simple online effort and many parents are already certified.
Attached please find a list of qualifying activities and/or initiatives broken down by organization. When you find the right fit for you, please claim your spot via SignUp Genius found here today. As a reminder, these opportunities are available on a first come, first serve basis.
While the list is comprehensive, we recognize opportunities will evolve. We remain open to feedback and welcome questions and comments to sab@mhrschool.com.
We are excited to welcome new ideas, energy and teams and thank you for your participation in what will be a great year for the Raider community!
Thank You,
The School Advisory Board
