EXCITING NEW PARTNERSHIP – MHR/SXU Wellness Center

This year marks the second year of a partnership with St. Xavier University College of Nursing. In addition to leading our students through important SEL lessons, SXU students will be dedicating a “Wellness Room” at MHR this year.  We thank SXU, our partners in Catholic Education, for their belief in our mission. Please see a letter from SXU with more information below:

Dear MHR Parents,

Something new that a lot of schools are focusing on is Social Emotional Learning and Mental Health Wellness. In collaboration with the St. Xavier Nursing Program, we are implementing a Wellness Room for students to utilize. A Wellness Room is the culmination of a mindset and cultural shift toward educating the whole child, including mental wellbeing. We are teaching students two main concepts: 1) to recognize how their stress response system works and 2) what coping skills they can use to self-regulate. We are all doing the work of self-regulation every day.

It is important for students to know we all get stressed, frustrated, sad and angry sometimes. We are human beings and to be effective in our relationships and endeavors we need the skills to self-regulate. We also know that knowing is not doing. Rather than tell kids how to self-regulate, we now allow kids to practice the skill in the moment, throughout the day whenever they need it. We feel safe when the people around us are self-regulated. When we feel safe we learn and we begin to trust. Trust is the foundation for healthy relationships.

The St. Xavier Nursing Students are working on creating this space so we can offer it to our students as soon as possible. We would appreciate any donations for the room based on the list below! If you have questions please contact Mrs. Kelly Malinger – kmalinger@mhrschool.com.

We hope our students feel safe and ready to learn each day, because when they come to school they know we care about them.

Sincerely,

Most Holy Redeemer School and Saint Xavier University College of Nursing Students
