Greetings MHR Community,

We are thrilled to present our second annual MHR Leaders Week – Monday, March 6 through Friday, March 10.  Designed to foster qualities of leadership, MHR Leaders Week helps students gain exposure to the ways in which they can answer the call to lead others as members of their Catholic community.

This year, we embrace our week’s theme, “Courage,” by adding further depth to the week while embracing many MHR traditions.

This year, some of MHR’s best and brightest 8th-grade leaders partnered with Lemolade to bring to life a one of a kind tee-shirt that captures our vision for the week.  This special “Gold” MHR tee shirt binds our school community with young people who experience unique circumstances through friendship.

To begin the week, Most Holy Redeemer alum and current Western Michigan University student-athlete, Peyton Doorhy, will visit MHR and share with students how embracing his natural leadership traits helped him meet his goal of becoming a Division 1 student-athlete.

We know there are so many alum success stories, and I am calling on you to help us share these stories with our students.  MHR ALUM, I NEED YOU – email your response to the following question, “How has leadership impacted your life?” to Principal Turney at dturney@mhrschool.com.   Throughout the week, your stories will be shared with our Raiders and will inspire the leaders of tomorrow.

Middle School students will once again host and participate in an intramural basketball tournament designed to raise awareness and funds for students with special needs. This fun tournament is a lesson in event planning, inclusion, activism, and school spirit in addition to bringing competition and excitement to our student body.

On Thursday, March 9, MHR will host its second annual “Raiders Plus Day,” where individuals with special needs become Raiders for the Day.  While planning this year’s version of the event, we acknowledge that one program does not fit all and pledge that we will make the day special and unique for each visitor.  This may include a tour of the school, visiting classrooms, lunch, and recess, engaging in meaningful and forward-thinking conversations, and/or watching or participating in our intramural basketball championship game.  This is a day to embrace and celebrate the uniqueness of us all.  If you would like to participate in the day or know someone who might be interested, please contact Ms. Maggie Scannell at mscannell@mhrschool.com.

Finally, on Friday, March 10, we will conclude the week with the celebration of St. Baldrick’s Day.  Currently, we have over 40 participants and raised $7,500 of our $10,000 goal.  If we meet our $10,000 goal, some staff members have vowed to participate by getting a shave, performing an Irish jig, or in another form.  If you or your student would like to volunteer or participate, please contact Mrs. Arlene Baumann at abaumann@mhrschool.com.  We are honored to support so many young people battling pediatric cancer through this event.

We look forward to a truly impactful week.  Thank you to all students, parents, alumni, parishioners, faculty, and staff for all you to to make times like these possible.

MHR is such a special place.

Go Raiders!
